Sheet 2

This is the first time our school participates in a Comenius Programme and we are all, both teachers and students, very excited and enthusiastic about it.

First we made a mascot. We thought of two choices which both represent Greece: a boat or an olive tree. We finally decided to choose the second one (elia) as it can have further signification for the next chapters of our project (creation of a recipe book etc.); that's why its main column is a spoon (cooking equipment).

Then children found the partners' countries in Google Earth and printed their flags with a greeting in  each country's language. They were very happy to do that.

We prepared the Comenius Board where children saw the distance between Greece and other partners' countries and found information about John Amos Comenius, the man who gave his name to our programme.

Children, with the help of the Information Technology teacher,  created Voki recoding   greetings in English and Greek. They were very  excited listening to the same expressions in other countries' native language.

Children registered temperature and weather conditions at 10 o'clock every morning and they were anxious to learn about the weather in other countries envying, mainly, the snow.

They also prepared and decorated the clocks of our partners.

Children were very happy when they used their own digital cameras at home,  to present their morning rituals: their wakening ,their breakfast, clothes they choose for school. They took photos of themselves trying different clothes depending on the weather.

We also emphasized the importance of breakfast as  part of a healthy nutrition. That's why we organized  and offered breakfast at school although it's not provided by our curriculum. Children brought oranges to make orange juice, boiled eggs, bread, feta cheese, olives and fruits  and enjoyed breakfast at school.

They are very happy to have Iceland's mascots as we have exchanged mascots. They take them whenever we have outdoor activities or visits because  they feel they have guests and they try to show the best of their school life. They then write a short paragraph in the mascot's diary describing their common experience.

They also prepared  Fotobabble. They took photos of some of their visits,  recorded their voices and described their photos.

We also made a video film about our visits in Blackpool and Bodo and presented it to our students in the assembly hall. They were very interested and asked many questions about the two countries we visited ,their educational systems and their everyday life.
We are sure that both teachers and students learn a lot from this experience and we are all willing to learn more.
